Agreed guys. That is unfortunate. I've never seen folks using them for crappie, but that is pretty crazy. Most folks I know use them for Catfish, as you say, using worms, livers, or stink bait.

well, it might depend on the yo yo you buy, but the ones we use will put the head of a 2 lb catfish up out of the water. Smaller catfish than that will be 2/3 out of the water.

a good yo yo will hold about any size fish as long as the limb and line holds true. It just wears them down with constant tension till they give out.

I pulled the owners manual on your motor from the web site and it has no specifics about having to add extra oil, only to fill the reservoir. It does give some specifics about RPM limits...

If it is oil injected, then it really shouldn't matter. Most of the new engines, example a Mercury Optimax, will automatically double up the oil injection for the 10 hour breakin without you knowing...
