No...I am seated when I lift the rod. It is more of the gentle lift you are describing. What I am saying is when I snatch the rod at the first sign of a bite...I will miss him every time.

What skeetbum said. 1/16 oz. jig, throw it out there, start counting, and retrieve it slower than slow. I usually start at the count of 5 for three or four cast. If nothing, go to 10; if nothing go...
