The HDI skimmer transducer with DI and sonar will work great. In my opinion, SI is not needed on the trolling motor. Lowrance makes a trolling motor mount for pretty cheap.

Using a clean power source with fix it up. Make sure to use a fuse close to battery.

What's the biggest advantage to the 14 foot rods vs the 12? Is it practical to say that the 14s won't spook as many fish? Is 2 feet making that much difference?

If you Google image search total scan transducer you can see what it looks like mounted. They are pretty long and vulnerable to stumps so I would defiantly mount it on a spring bracket.
