I've used those reels. May be a lil tip heavy as you say . I tend to believe that keeps in rod holders better. As for holding em, I don't know. Tight or long lining I prefer Mitchell Avocet in 1000...

Those 14' Southern Crappie rods are great. Balanced, picks up light bites easy. Ed Duke has a good product there, good luck.
