A lot of manufactures make a drop shot rod! I have a G Loomis DSR822S Drop Shot Rod, light extra fast action, 7 ft. 1 pc. It works great, had it for 12 years and still looks like new!!!

If you are talking a smaller, easier to handle but very stable fishing rig you can't beat the PONDTOON like Cane Pole, Blackhawk and I have. The pods are completely filled with flotation, unsinkable....

Mine is a tiller steer! You can place the storage boxes and seat where ever you want so easy to setup for tiller steer.

I'm with Cane Pole! Check out the Pondtoons. I have gone to fishing like you and my 1672 Pondtoon is perfect for that. Use to have a beautiful 18' Lund but was getting to be too much for me to handle...
