I wear the vest type all the time if I'm by myself or with my two kids. I'll take it off when using the trolling motor at times when I'm with another adult.

I like the Berkley Cherrywood rods. They are about $25. I use the ultralight. 5' rod is what I use most. They will cast small jigs and lures well due to their small, flexible tip.

I used to use one made of PVC. It was an L shaped piece of PVC with deucer mounted on long leg of L. Short leg of L slid into another piece of larger PVC that was attached to boat deck with u bolts....

Another vote for 1448 or bigger. Anything less will be too small. I duck hunted/ fished out of a 1436 with a 9.8hp for years and 2 people was one too many. Good luck with your search for a boat.

String type for me. Can't get the rubber ones to stay put on 6 lb mono.

Don't pull too hard on braided line, it'll cut right through your skin!

Take a kid fishing- someone probably took you when you were young. And be patient with them.

I second the Berkley Cherrywoods and the Duck Dynasty rods ( made by B n M if I remember correctly). Both are cheap and will cast a 1/16oz or smaller jig well with 4-6 lb mono. I use both for casting...
