You are correct. It is a speed limit now. Personally I wish it would go back because the place is behind overfisehed now. The size of the fish is smaller too. IMO

Have you changed your battery or switch recently? The power is polarity sensitive. The red should be hot + black -. I had this issue when I installed my 597
