I use St Croix Avid UL 5' rods that I've been picking up for around $100 on eBay. I know that's spendy but the lifetime warranty is hard to beat, and they're a hell of a rod.

I use Oakley amber polarized prescription lenses, and they work great for me, but are spendy.

I've been finding a few new St. Croix Avid's lately for around $100 bucks. Kind of spendy, but the lifetime warranty makes them well worth the price.

Either use a transom saver or leave the motor down for less stress on transom. I've always used a transom saver.
