I use 3/4 and 1", but up to 2" works great...just a little harder to find in scrap. I've made "tree stumps" with a piece of 4" sewer pipe in the middle, with 6 - 10 pieces of 3/4" splayed around it....

I've never heard of anyone using them AS cover, but I know several that use them to HOLD cover...they bend the bottom legs to hold a cinder block or two and tie small bamboo and limbs to it. I'd go...

My thoughts exactly...I don't pound the banks with the masses anymore. I ease around sunken cover in 8-15 FOW and grab the big females...quietly. Don't want to attract ant attention ;)
