Default A Bull out of Place

Made it to the Rockefeller canals this morning just about the time the wind hit Force 8. Right away we found some fish - quickly pulled the hook on one but couldn't get the others to strike either spinnerbaits or a popped shrimp-tipped jig. Durel finally put it in one's face, and some 20 minutes later - with him fighting the fish and me fighting the wind and the boat, we got it aboard. 27 pounds 10 ounces. And yeah, he kept it, and I gave him my blessing. It was his biggest ever, and he earned the bragging rights - dead of winter in a young gale in the back of a shallow dead-end oil-well location canal on a 5 1/2-foot casting rod with 12-pound line.
You know, one fish can make a really, REALLY good day! :D

Pete, sounds like he earned the right to keep it. I bet he's happy.

Wow, I caught a bull a few years ago that weighed 27lbs, and it was on 40lb test, and he was dragging the boat around. I bet you both had your hands full. Congrats to him on his catch.
You can't fish with a hung line!

I bet he had a blast with that big bull. I wonder if that reel needs a new drag now, I bet it was singing.

    Where y'at, Neighbor!
No, it was quite the contrary. Non-stop 30-foot smokes in every direction but the right one! Guess the shallow, cold water had it screwed up a bit.
Personally, I would have rather had it make a 100-yard dash and then poop out like they do in the surf!
Oh well - incidentally, his wife WON'T let him hang it on the wall! Personally, if I was him I'd mutiny!
