4 stars ( Chicago tribunes` Thursdays fishing report) and light winds had plenty of boats out on the water. Started out on the line in 65` and trolled out. It was a spotty bite and the schools were tight, we found one in 165` and picked up 3 fish, turned back thru and managed 3 more. Then the boats around me (26 within 3/4 mile of me according to my radar)turned and fished the same area. I believe all the hardware dragged thru scattered the school and sent every one back into the search mode. Most bites early on were on the `riggers then shifted to the birds and dipseys. We were all over and ended up in 40` just off the irons and landed 3 more to come in with 14 coho.
In the afternoon we went south to the hotel around 90`where a decent number of fish were caught in the AM. Went for the first hour with one little king that we let go and hope to hook up with in a few more years :D It was slow for myself and another charter fishing in the same area. I went shallow and he went out deeper heading North. I hit 60` and we started having action, but couldn`t get the fish to the boat. The best baits were the "Sister Sludge" spoon, and a "Little Boy Blue" flie behind a smoke dodger down 40` on the `riggers. I had no bird or dipsey action until we reached 40` at the irons and the wind really started picking up from the the Southeast. We lost a few more there and ended up well short of expectations with a 6/14 showing. The other charters I spoke with on my dock came in with the same number of fish and had the same spotty bite as I did.
