The interesting thing is with the fibrous roots you can keep the tree small but the trunk will get 4-5 inches across and carry a lot of fruit. I have Limestone boulders the size of footballs in the bottom of my St. Ann Satsumas since the Bobcat has no suspension, it bounces something light right off the forks if I'm not careful.

Default Fig Tree Pruning Ahead of Deep Freeze

Just a quick post showing the difference in before and after pruning. I wrapped all the trees with 8in fiberglass insulation after tying the limbs together as close as possible. After all the fig trees were covered with plastic garbage bags. If they were older I wouldn't need to worry but young Fig trees, also fig trees that grow too fast are much more vulnerable to freezing.
I also went over to friends houses collecting the tips of limbs still green as all of them will be frozen back. Collecting wood before the freeze assures the cuttings will be good for rooting later.

This freezing coming through is going to kill a bunch of stuff. I moved almost everything I could from greenhouse into our living room for the week. Better to ask for forgiveness than.... well I'm in trouble anyway so...lol. Hope everything survives for you. Lots invested into your fruit trees, etc...

I just looked at the Peaches, pears, plums, Pluots, Plurrys, etc and we have a lite coat of ice so they will be fine. The ice insulates the fruit buds. I will post a picture later, I dug up all the figs from Stan and re-potted them so I could move them inside.

Here are a couple of pictures of the figs wrapped up. These would certainly freeze to the root without wrapping.

This is the only way we can grow Citrus, put them inside. Best way to store Citrus is on the tree as you can see we have a few still to enjoy. Hope everyone else's trees fair very well...............

This is a 26x40ft Fabric building I put up for customer boat storage. I don't know if I ever posted here on CDC but when a boat was here for me to work on it Never sat outside. So I have several of these in 18x20ft Gable roof but this one catches more wind since much taller so it has been turned to shreds by the numerous tropical storms we had the last 5 years. Yesterday I pulled the trigger and ordered a new cover from the manufacturer that will turn this into a greenhouse. My Citrus trees & Fig trees will have a new Winter home. Once I have the new cover installed I will post a update.

I'm going to line the southern wall with black water barrels to absorb heat during the day. 3Ft from the edge is useless anyway.

I thought it was the northern wall that should be lined.
