For a Dock shooting rod I personalty like a light or med light action in the 4 to 8 lb line class, with a Fast Tip.
I built a rod many years ago for flounder fishing. No so many years later I would like to build a dock shooting rod to my that fits me. I would like it sensitive with enough backbone to move a determined fish out from under the dock

I think I built two for a guy on a HMX light freashwater spinning blank he really really liked. The blank number was a S842 I think. Witch is a 7ft light fast action 4-8 lb line 1/16-5/16 oz lure if I recall right but don't hold me to it tho, that's just off the top of my head. He called me the other day talking about building two more cut down to 6' or 6'6" for when he needs to get closer to the docks. The reason I went with a Mudhole Blank on that build is if he snapped one loading the rod up they are pretty good about standing being their products. Most the blanks I use are Rainshadows But that blank did Shoot very well with the set up I built for him and it was a light build. I want to say like 2.5oz or something like that. If you think you are going to snap the blank put the Mudhole rod decal that it comes with because it has the rod serial number on the decal. Or they might give you a hard time with warranty and keep a copy of the bill to send them until the blank runs out of warranty. Learned that the hard way with a different blank brand that had a year warranty and I snapped one 6 months in and the serial number said it was sold 2 years ago. Needless to say I don't buy from them anymore.
Many thanks . That was the advice I was looking for. Sounds like what I am wanting. There is always a possibility to snap a rod dock shooting. Any advice on line guides. I think I want a set that is close spaced.

I almost all ways uses Fuji KL-H spinng guides (a 4 guide step down 16H,12H,8M,5.5L) and then Run six #5 KT Single Foot Running guide plus the tip. I just use Fujis Guide spacing on about anything unless the rod has so much flex i have to change it, because the line is making a sharp transition from guide to guide or touching the blank. If you need a guide spacing Chart Message me and ill give you my number and text you a picture of the guide chart.
Thank you for taking the time to answer questions. I used Fuji guides last time. I will surely use them again. I am in the planning stages now. I am going to order the parts and then when it is too cold to fish I am going build the rod.

No worries man any questions you ever have feel free to message me. I had a great mentor teach me and I believe in passing it alone. I’m teaching a few high school kids right now and they are loving it. One of them just won a tournament one a rod we built and all he could talk about was building his rod on stage lol. Definitely made me smile.

That's awesome. It feels good to do well with something you have made.

Thanks GB. I've been away awhile but I have zero experience in the dock shooting category so I would have been of zero help!
Now I know what to look for in case someone askes.
