Haha, I feed the minnows in my fish tank the same thing.
For those who keep a shiner tank I have been testing a different fish food that has really reduced my mortality rate. I buy it at Wally World, I use the same brand but the flakes. My shiners die at a higher rate 7-10 every couple of days with the flake food. These Pellets float, are small enough for the shiners and now I'm getting 5-7 dead every 4 days or so. Even the ones I'm taking out, they ride in the bucket most of the day, then I return them to the tank, those are much tougher shiners. Other than the initial water mix of Shad Keeper to the stress level (double Shad Keeper per Gallon of water) I have not added anything to the water in months. A little food goes a long way. Nothing gets sucked into the pump to rot in the Environmental Filter.

Working on building a minnow tank set up for me and a couple guys. Rojo, do you or anybody else have any past posts you have made with pics?
CATCH A BIG-UN
I have no luck with minnows in the hotter months. In the winter I keep some if I end up fishing a lot
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
My setup is for Emerald Shiners and I keep them to the point they grow too big. Most of my losses were from food & stress. As posted above I was using the same Goldfish Food but the flakes, the local bait shop uses the same food but they are not on a closed system. I've kept my own shiners for close to 10 years now and am happy to help speed you along. I killed a lot of shiners, if I can help prevent you from going thru the same thing let me know. Tuffy minnows live forever in my system. I have not been able to buy natural colored Tuffys only gold so Shiners have been the minnow the last year or more.
Most of the shiners sold down here are hatched & raised in Arkansas as I understand it.
