    Default Melting lead?

Has anyone used a single electric burner and a small cast iron pot to melt their lead. I was thinking of buying a lead dipper. I will only be pouring now and then so trying to keep cost down. Walmart has a burner for 14.95 and amazon has a pot for around 15.00. Thanks,Don

For a long time I used a Coleman propane stove and a cast iron ladle. It works but I just recently spent the $75 for a lee melting pot and wow. I wish I would have done that years ago!

I agree, the melting pot is so much better. The biggest advantage is the ability to control the temperature. Getting the cavities to fill properly without getting the lead too hot.
Maybe they will bite this one……

The Lee pot is the least expensive and will do you a respectable job. You need to use clean lead and flux it for the pot to work best. If you don’t keep a lot of lead in it the side walls will rust.

Yep, what they said... And if your pouring small jigs, you will be glad you purchased one. Another tip is to keep something around in case you have a run away. Hasn't happened to me yet, but those that have were glad they did...

I bought mine from Barlows. They had the best price I could find. As longhunter said for small jigs they are almost a must. I didn't realize how easy making small heads was until I got mine. I would always fight getting good head with using a ladle and the with the pot I hardly have any that I have to redo.

Here is the link to the one at Barlow's

I use mine on top of a cheap sheet pan from Walmart.
