    Default Lead Alloys

    When I read about lead alloys, it is sometimes stated in a format like 90:5:5 as in the case of Lyman's #2 alloy this would represent 90 parts lead, 5 parts Antimony and 5 parts Tin.

    Is this ratio in pounds or some other unit?

    Ratio = percentage. 100% = 90% + 5% + 5%.

    So 10lbs = 9lbs + 0.5lbs + 0.5lbs

    Any unit works (oz, lb, kg, etc)

    Get some alloy wheel weights to cast ingots and melt them at 50/50 with lead, you'll be close.

    When I owned my business, I ran 15lbs of soft lead to 3 pounds of wheel weight lead. This created a slightly harder head that did not tarnish. It also increased the flash or melting point slightly and allowed for a better pour than just soft lead
