I'm having trouble with the spinner shank getting loose after catching several crappie on them. Any suggestions ?

Yeah I had problems with this at 1st as well as the wire insert slipping right out of the head. To help combat this I 1st bend the wire insert that is going to be inside the head to a 90 degree bend. They come at like at 45 degree which I believe is a pour design. When pouring I place the pot spout inside the gate of each cavity I'm pouring. I actually do this method now on any mold I'm pouring. I found I get a better poured head especially when you start adding wire keepers, fiberguards and wire inserts. I no longer just pour lead across the gates to fill the cavities. I also get a little powder on the wire where it meets the head. This helps beef up the area. I'm very careful when pinching the wire insert shut. I use a pair of needle nose pliers that have teeth. I found the smooth pliers slip therefor losening the wire insert.
Y'all read my mind, I just painted that same jig today for the first time. I'm using the WEY395 I think is the number from Barlows. I saw a post in hear to somewhere that someone was cutting their own out of welding wire. I think it was Mr Jackie. I may try to bend to 90 degrees but when I tried it a few days ago it wound up being too shallow in the lead. I am just now beginning this so I'm glad the question came up....
I have come across the perfect solution. The wife and I was in Hobby Lobby the other day and I came across a pair of "1 Step Looping" pliers. You can get them in a couple different sizes, but I got a pair of the 1.5mm. I did a trial of a few yesterday out of paper clip wire both regular and jumbo paper clips. I think you all will be impressed. I will try to figure out how to post a couple pictures in the mold before the pour and after. This set of pliers loops and cuts the wire to length at the same time.
You can see a demo video of it at
The Beadsmith.com
Click on pliers then 1-step looper then 1.5mm video.
I'm going to try some either .24 or .30 Stainless. I saw a reference on some web site of "soft stainless steel wire" so that is what I'm hoping to come across. I think about a .24 would be the size of the standard size paper clip I used in this trial. And it is tight also....there is another loop on the inside of the jig head as well. It will not pull out
Good job thanks for post. Have not forgotten you.not own much.trying to get moved.tougher than we thought.have two of everything. Lol we like stainless steel wire from Barlows..015-.018.we want the viberaton from the blade like on a bass spinnerbait.have been trying piano wire.with great results.still testing lol.

Yes sir Jackie, if the rain will ever settle down we will have to meet up and go. Know where you are at, looked up your new address and you are just around the curve from my wife's former boss at DHS here in Batesville. They are trying to sell there place there to move to Cabot. He took a position in Little Rock. I have just been playing with this some but getting the hang of it I hope
