I'll be looking forward to the answers, as I ordered the Do-It mold to pour
horse heads with larger hooks on the smaller jig heads. Good luck with
your pours! Dave
I am going to start pouring jigs in 1/16th ounce and the recommended hook size is #4, but I would like to go a little bigger like #2. Would that be ok? or would that be too big?

Most Do-it molds allow you to go one hook size bigger in the mold. And yes you can pour a 2 in the 1/16th head. One thing to watch if your using sickles is to dry fit the hooks to make sure they fit in the eye socket. Sometimes you'll get a batch of hooks and some have a longer eyelet to bend length and they won't let the mold closed. I'm assuming when you say horsehead style you're talking about no collar heads.

I'd go without the collar and mod the mold a little to accept the wire keepers for the plastics. There's nothing to modding the mold for the wires. Should you decide to tie you can tie right over the wires without any problem and its way less bulky than tying on the collar.
If you are going to pull that 1/16oz horse head through brush a #4 hook will come through the brush with less hang ups than the #2 or the #1. I make them with #4's for fishing with open hook and with #2 if i am making it with a fiber weed guard. The #4 will hook them very well. As a matter of fact i caught probably a dozen 14" crappie off my dock this spring on a float and fly setup. It was a weighted float and the fly was a true #10 bead head fly that weighted about 1/140oz. This was during the spawn and the water depth was about 4'. That same #10 fly also caught a 19" large mouth during this same time period.
The only one of the horsehead molds you won't be able to go to big is the 1/32 and 1/16th double sided mold. As it is you can only pour 1 side at a time.

I found out that you can put one wire keeper in at a time with hook, shut mold and beat with a rubber hammer. It will perfectly imprint the wire keeper into the mold. When all is said and done you might need to beat mold back straight by removing all hooks and wire keepers them shut mold and beat with rubber hammer again in the event it got warped.
