    Default Jacobs mold

Throwing this out there. I have a few Jacobs molds they are made great. They don't cast the easiest. I have the molds heated up and clean lead. The mold size is 1/32 and 1/16 spinner head. I get 3 out of 5 cast good and sometimes 1-2 that rhe barb doesn't fill in correct. The ones that are cast good are a pain to remove from the mold requiring pliers to remove.

My do it mold I can cast the five baits and leave them connected at remove all five at once from the mold.

Is there any suggestions. Thought about smoking the mold using a candle but never really tried that before.

what I found with the Jacobs...I have to pour the cavities individually and they come out good. When I was moving the mold across the lead downspout....I had the same problem. This solved my problem.....but I still agree....I like the do-it the best.

Can't remember the whole thread, but I remember some post's when he first started making lead molds about this problem. If I remember correctly there was something about opening up the vent area to let the air escape better and letting lead flow in better to fill cavity. This is just my thought on the hard to remove. That tells me you have a more precise bait. Good for someone like me who just pours a few for myself. For someone who likes to pour a bunch at a time like yourself or someone like light wire who has to pour production it is not a good thing. JW, you might get on his forum and do some reading or do a serch on here and hopefully find the answer to the pouring problem. I know some where I read someone had figured it out.

Ok thanks guys will do. Yep contacted him but was told to put mold into pour spout but that didn't solve my issue. Good looking mold but wish it cashed better. Charlie I cast 200-500 at a time so I don't have to do them for a long time as they can be aggravating. My thought is I forget how aggravating they are to cast that way lol.

I opened the gate up with a tiny larger drill Billy but all that did was make it harder to take spru off the head lol. Oh well, nice looking molds but after having bought 3 of them I wouldn't buy another one after reading the posts about others with same issues.

Sure wish the mold companies would listen to some of the guys that use there stuff a lot but then again they are made probably I am guessing with the home brew guy who is happy with 1-3 cast out five being good out of the mold. Do it lead molds have been way more user friendly than my Jacobs l that I have bought. Thanks for the replies and pm for those that didn't want to post on open forum.

I been pouring for several years and there is nothing that will make you throw a mold quicker than this will, a collared head with no collar. It all has to do with trapped air. They mill the molds, especially the custom mold builders to fit together so tight that the air has no where to go so it just sets there in the bottom of the collar. Then here comes your lead and hits the pocket of trapped air and it has no where to go so it stops dead in its tracks.BEEN THERE DONE THAT and didn't like it either. The trick is to introduce them to the SPIDER as I call it. You can accomplish this with a triangle file, chisel, or my favorite a dremel. You need to cut a small channel to let the air escape from the bottom of the collar to a open part of the mold. It will mean a little extra trimming but 6 heads are better than three anyday. The key is not to make the legs on the spider to deep so the lead will not run out but the air can still escape. I know it makes no sense to cut on a perfectly good mold but I look at it like breaking a horse to plow..it's no good if it won't do what you want it to anyways... I hope this sheds a little light on a pesky problem..
