Thread: Jacobs mold

That's what I had and seemed to help but I got frustrated with the mold after spending the money on it to find out it doesn't cast very well. Glad to see others with same issues. It is on my list of stuff to mod. I knew it was a venting problem. I have moved on to the no barb do it poney mold and made it accept wire keepers. Was easy to do and pours great. Bad thing is only pour one each size at a time. That's what made the pill head by Jacobs attractive. I tried contacting the fellow and he referred me to the tip page. Any ways good mold if you vent it probably.

It maybe FM...you just need to displace the trapped air..and it doesn't take alot. I never was much in favor of beating on a mold with a hammer or mallet. I just draw a line where I want it and go to it with a tri-file or a dremel. The key is to do it slow and a little at a time..

ABH...he makes some good molds but when you buy it, IT'S YOURS...PROBLEMS AND ALL..As for the ponies, they make some of the collar less sizes in multi cavity cause I have one in the 1/32 & 1/16 oz size..

You got that right grousefly about the issues. On the ponies I will look into the other molds. I like the size smaller than 1/32

They don't make a production mold in the 1/48th its in the assorted size horse head mold. No 1/48th in the pony head (collared) mold.

The one thing I hate about the 1/32 and 1/16th horse head mold (no collar) is it's double sided!! You really have to position your hooks to go one size higher. And you can only pour one side at a time, but when you get in a groove you can whip them right out.

Not a Pro and many on here have forgotten more about pouring than we do.We have the Jacob's pill spinner mold's no issue's.Really like them and our Go-to mold's .Like the different size hook's Jacob's mold's will take. Have the pony's/horsehead mold's like Fatman said only accepts certain hook's"small" will not pour bigger or heaver hook's.On the Jacob's mold's have several of his mold's no issue's.That being said we make sure mold's are hot.Use only pure lead.Make sure vent's or open.We run a small tooth brush through vent's to make sure They are open.Does not take much to block.We also pour 8 -10 of each cavity before adding hook's.To make sure mold will pour.We use mostly lite wire hook's also seem's to get better results from our mold's over the heavy wire hook's.Hope this help's.Our Two cent's.

Jackie wonder if maybe you are one of few that do have issues is because of the light wire hook. This may allow venting through by the hook slot of air? I usually am upsizing a hook.

Yeah no problem with Jacobs molds here and actually prefer it over do it. Do it you can be sloppy and just run the lead from one side of the mold to the other and get away with it. Jacobs no. I've had greatest success filling each cavity individually. Out of 50 I have 1 not filled. Jacobs heads come out cleaner than do its. Jacobs sprues snap off easier and cleaner for me too.
