    Default which minnow head mold?

I think I am going to get a minnow head mold from do it and was wondering what one you guys liked the best. I am fairly new to pouring jigs and was wondering if I got the one with recessed eyes if painting them on would look right or if you had to get stick on eyes, also it says that that jig is balanced so I'm assuming that it sits horizontal so the other jig without the recessed eyes sit more vertical? How does the wire keeper work compared to the barbed collar and can you them without it if I wanted just the jig heads?

I have the regular one with the little raised lead eye and lead barb on the collar.

The recessed eye you can paint if you want the better you can paint the better they'll look - for me any eye I have to paint is getting stick on!!LOL
All the models as far as I know sit's horizontal.
Some like the barbed collar but others like the wire keeper - the barbed collar comes poured on the jig the wire keeper you have to purchase extra and put in the mold before pouring.
Yes you can pour without the wire keeper if you want to.

Thanks, I just ruled the wire keeper out, if I don't want the color I can nip it off with wire cutters, no need for me to buy wire keepers when a mold comes with a barb.

The wire keeper will hold your solid plastics on longer than the lead barb will in my opinion. I actually have both molds and never use the one with the lead barb anymore. Also it will cast a collarless head by just leaving the wire out and then you have a good jig to tie on. You can use stick on eyes or paint them in. I do it both ways and both look good.

THAT IS A VERY GOOD POINT IF YOU TIE JIGS. I LIKE THE WIRE KEEPER FOR THAT REASON. I HAVE COME TO LIKE THE WIRE KEEPER FOR THE PLASTIC HOLDING ABILITY ALSO. I HAVE MODIFIED A FEW MOLDS TO USE WIRE KEEPER FOR THIS REASON. THE WIRE KEEPER GETS EXPENSIVE AND I HAVE FOUND A CHEAPER SOURCE. Captain Hook's Discount Warehouse

There'll be less splitting of the plastic with the wire. In the very small cavities I have noticed that the wires can come loose in use because there's very little lead holding the wire. I modded my mold by moving the wire up into the head slightly and things work a bit better in that regard now.

ifish have you checked the cost of the keeper wires with Mustang Wire?? They're good folks to deal with, if they already have it in their catalouge you're all set - if it's something you need custom made that's something to be worked with them.

As an example I FINALLY got hold of the old Erie Dearie style mold that I let go like a DA!! and several weeks later got the smaller 1/4 oz mold that is really hard to find. I contacted Mustang and they had an overrun of the wires used in the molds, I got them for $45 less than than a couple 100 would have cost me for a 1000!! If you look at their site and you have questions go through their contact form and mark or one of the other folks will get with you.

Have done some business with them in the past. Got 100,000 wires for a bass bait a few years ago for the store. May ask about some wire soon. Thanks!
