    Default The perfect bluegill jighead?

I have the ability to make jigheads if I have a model and was wondering if there was a head out there combined with a certain hook that is not currently available that would make a great set up for bluegill or if there is an old style out there that's hard to get or no longer available.I know very little about bluegill and would like to get into producing a great jighead.

Any jighead works if the hook is small enough. I use nothing bigger than 1/32 with a #6 hook. 1/64 with a #8 is better, IMO.

I think DBD is right on. Now, Since I think that far more jigs are sold on customer eye appeal,I would like to see a little 1/80 oz jig head shaped like the design Crappie Pro uses for crappie jigs with a #8 nickel steel hook. I think that would tie into a sharp looking kip tail. jig.

I ordered several jigs for pan fishing. 1/16th oz on a standard round bend #6 hook, 1/32 oz on a #8 sickle hook, and I found some 1/48 oz on a standard #8 hook. between those choices I can tie some good jigs and choose the right one based on my bait/lure of the day and depth I will be fishing.

My dad would slay bluegills on the beds with a 1/80 oz #10 hook and crickets under a small float, 2-4lb line.

1/64 and 1/32oz with a no8 sickle hook, shorten the lead over the shank, no hackle and sell them unpainted

Make another model with a concave bottom to glide when slowly retrieved or vertically jigged - this would make for an excellent ice jig

That's a Crappie Thumper from DWAZ lures - excellent jig
    DWAZ Lures Crappielures.com

I'd like to see it modified a bit...I've lost a few crappie ice fishing with it and the long lead body leaves little room to stack 4-6 waxies on the shank without covering the barb.

Another great bluegill jig is this one: Northland Banana Bug Jig : FishUSA

This needs to hang horizontal instead of 45 degrees....HT used to make a horizontal version but they're harder and harder to find anymore. I'd buy a great deal of both designs if they had sickle hooks

Thanks for the imput fellas i think i could work with both of those designs and tweak them to make something more along the lines of what you're wanting.
Matzilla how would that head work with an eagle claw x long shank #6?that would be an easy fix,i could also work to shorten and concave the head to make it work with a sickle.
I currently have 1/64,1/32,1/24,1/16 on up in ball heads and can pour them with smaller hooks i currently don't stock anything smaller than#6 but if you guys need heads then i will start stocking #8.I also have 1/48,1/32 minnow head with or without the wire keeper that i can do in a #8.
