    Default Tungsten Jigs

I tried this on the main forum with no results. I have a couple of questions some of you may know the answer to.

    1) where can you buy tungsten jigs 3mm * 5mm fairly inexpensively? $1 range

    2) are unpainted tungsten jigs easy to powder paint?

    3) can you use the downpour pot we make regular lead jigs and buy a lb. of raw tungsten (if you can) and melt it down and pour our own?

I ran across a post by Alphahawk who said he loved using them for bluegill. Trouble is most of them are $2.50-$3.00 apiece. Tungsten is smaller, denser, and more sensitive than lead.

don't think you are gonna pour tungsten since it melts at ~5000F instead of 621.5F for lead.

Bronson, my suggestion is go over to BassBoatcentral. Look around and see what you can find on there. I know I have seen some advertised for bass fishing. Maybe check with LurePartsonline.

That would be one serious melting pot.

Most all tungsten jigs are made with a resin and powdered tungsten or the heads are cast with a slot to allow the hooks to be glued in place. Powder painting is not a good option in either case.

Learning has occured. And here I thought it was Friday and I normally don't learn anything at work on Friday except how to count the hours until I leave!

I think we would be jumping from "melting" pots to "smelting" pots!! Imagine the power of the heat gun you would need to powder coat one of those jokers

Good info guys, very much appreciated. Don't think I will be melting any tungsten, don't have two weeks to wait for the pot to cool down. And to think, I used to think lead was dangerous. Thanks HMK, I'll check EBay, sounds like a real deal if you can get them for that.
