Default Need a new mould for 1/32 oz.

I have a Do-it made for Gamakatsu hooks that is supposed to pour down to 1/32 oz. It is a double collar type jig mold that I use sickle hooks in. All weights are correct except for the 1/32 oz and It weighs 1/24 oz.

I need a mold that will pour a true 1/32 oz that will accept a larger hook. I would like a size 1 or 2 sickle to fit into the mold.

    Any suggestions??

BTW, Needs to have a collar or barb as these are for soft bodies

I can see where the weight might be off - that mold is designed for a heavy wire hook and you're using aberdeen style hooks, but you'd think all the weights would be off with the lighter wire hooks.

Don't know if the new Do it round head wire keeper mold interests you or not but CTom posted a thread about them http://www.crappie.com/crappie/diy-s...s/295278-jigs/ You could always check with him to see if he can do a fit test for a size 1 hook in the mold but it calls for a size 4 or 6.

I have the RHB-8-1632 that makes 4 each of 1/32nd and 1/16th with collar and barb and it doesn't like a size 1 hook in the 1/32nd, due to the warming chamber. If you could find the old one without it you might be alright but without a scale to weigh them can't help you there.

    Hope this helps

If you have one of the molds with the warming chamber, you can always have it machined away. This is what I did on a couple of my molds to be able to run the larger hooks.

I tried a #1 hook in the 1/32-1/24 mold and it was a no go. The eye portion of the cavity would have to be reamed out and you'd have to do some clean-up in a couple other areas. On top of that you'd only have two cavities in each size castable at a time as the cavities are a bit cramped with large hooks. Then the extra diameter of the hook will erase the allowance made for the wire. It'd be an awful lot of messin for not much gain.

Check out Jacobs mold and machine, My 1/32 is dead on with #6 hooks and #1 hooks work well.

    8fisherman,

That is a great idea to check out the Jacobs mold. I have poured between a #1 and a #10 in my 1/64 for demonstration purposes. I have actually just for grins set in a 1/0 red sickle.

There is a thread a little further down the page that has a picture of all of the hooks for comparison purposes.

    Thanks guys,

I will be ordering a 1/32 from Jacobs. That is what I was looking for. Last spring we ran into a situation where the fish would not hit anything but a true 1/32 oz. We were casting into current and eddies and the ones that weighed 1/24 oz would not be touched while the 1/32 were wearing them out. The problem with the massed produced 1/32 around here is they are not good quality and the hook were too small. The Do-it Gama mold is great for anything 1/24 and larger but not for smaller.
