    Default New melting pot

I am in the market for a new melting pot soon. I have the Lee 110 v 10lb pot. It dribbles so much and has never worked real good. It needs to be retired. What would you buy and why.

If money were not an object RCBS Pro-Melt and a close second Lyman Mag 20 and Third Lee Pro IV-20
RCBS Great temp control, never seen one drip nice pour but does better with the lyman guides

Lyman relaible control but not as good as the RCBS but has an outstanding guide system

Lee Pro 0 after some modifications added weight to stopper rod has done a great job

I have used all 3 and although I am very happy with my Lee Pro I still dream of the RCBS

My Lee IV's are new so IF I had to replace them and money wasn't an issue I'd get the RCBS first, then the Lee 20 lb.

I have the lee 10lb pot. I finally took the screws off the plunger mechanism and let the rod sit down in the funnel. I raise it with a pair hemostats and drips quit. It is labor intensive this way for sure. I could never get the plunger to seat in the funnel. I thought about the 20lb pot. I am just a recreational user.

Might want to read through this JW. Fatman and a couple of others talk about how to clean your pot. It sure helped mine. Buckeye modified his in a way that made sense to me, just been to lazy to do mine but mine since keeping clean dosnt leak enough to bother me now.

    Default New melting pot

Cray I have done that but the plunger never has sealed up the funnel. The inside of the pot has a bunch of rust. Is this normal. I completely clean the plunger and funnel. The pot just has a small stream of lead that pours out. Not just a drip. When I took the lift bar off and let plunger sit in funnel seals off. Like the plunger mechanism needs adjusting maybe?

Okay question?? How old is your pot? Does it have a back that is square or like this

One other thing you can try is loosen the screws that hold the plunger bar in and pull it out - take an old knife and scrape down the rod - you'd be really surprised what build-up there is on the bottom of it!! I also have a very long flat head screw driver that I poke down in the inside of the pour spout and scrape it, then take an old heavy hook and push it up through the bottom then turn your pot upside down and tap it you might have a build up in there.

Through MY FAULT!! when we moved the last time the box that had my melting pots got put in the garage instead of in the house and because it had a split top water got in and ruined the heater coils. I called LEE and sent my pots back under their 1/2 price replacement program (cost based on buying a new one from LEE) and for the cost of 1 new pot got 2 brand new pots (this is at their discretion when they look at them). If it just needs to be repaired they will do it and you'll get a new 2-year guarantee. Really hard to not use a product that's USA made and that the company stands behind!!

Here's the info for the half price program:

LEE reloading products are guaranteed not to wear out or break from normal use for two full years or they will be repaired or replaced at no charge if returned to the factory. Any LEE product of current manufacture, regardless of age or condition, will be reconditioned to new, including a new guarantee, if returned to the factory with payment equal to half the current retail price.

Thx my pot was given to me and it is the square back. I tried to loosen the screws and allow the plunger to go more in the funnel but didn't work. I have cleaned it and scrubbed everything. The plunger doesn't seat well in the funnel. What was the cost of the replacement by the time you included shipping etc. just wondered if not cheaper to buy new one.

At current Lee prices for the IV - $39.99, don't remember paying shipping back to me. If you call the number I listed they can give you all the info you'll need. You have to pay to ship your pot to them. I have my other new one un-used as a backup.
