Gill Fisher you will find some paints will flow better than others, it is due the a heavier pigmentation of the paints, white at one time was a real nightmare.
I received some cups from TJ Tackle this week and had a chance to try them out today. I tried 2 different cups with 2 different colors of power paint but in each case I am still getting volcanoes instead of the power paint looking like fluid. The same thing happened when I used coffee filters. I seem to have plenty of air volume, but I'm just not getting what I see in the videos. Is there anything I can do to solve this situation?
Thanks
GF

The paints from Harbor Freight don't work well in the beds either. You can cut it with clear to make it work a little better but it will never work as well as Pro-Tec and some of the others.

Try turning down the amount of air to the cup. You can over power it with to much air, also try using just a couple of table spoons of paint. It dosn't take much paint in the cup to paint with it flowing right. To much paint in the cup will cause it to do that at times. Also try swirling the paint in the cup once you turn the air on. That paint will kind of compact in the jar and when you pour in cup it kinda sticks together. Swirl it and let the air stir it until it loosens up.

Stump, Pro-Tec is the only paint I have. I have Orange, Blue, Red and Black. Thanks, Cray, I'll try that. I've been putting the whole jar of paint, a new jar full, in the cups. I'll try using less paint, and I'll try swirling it around in the cup with the air blowing through it. I'm going to be on the road most of the day today, but I'll try to experiment with the paint some next week and let you all know how it goes.

Putting a whole jar in the fluid bed WILL cause problems. Way to much powder in the cup, for a 2" bed I use about 2-2 1/2 table spoons of powder.
Also you can set your air pump either close to or touching your base. The extra vibration from the pump seems to keep it loose. I made a few deep cups for doing 6 oz jig heads and this helps a lot.
Even with pro tec paint there are colors that are tough to fluidize and unfortunately you picked 3 of the worst red, blue and black as well as white are tough to work with,if you need a red then ruby slipper works well and sapphire blue is a great alternative to blue.

just got done doing 300 jigs with pro-tec powders. I added about 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons of rosies clear 200 and it got rid of the volcanos . I now will not do any color without adding a little clear.
