If You do get paint in the eyes, Use an old jig, straighten out the hook, heat the hook point and stick the heated point through the eye. It will go through the paint like a hot knife through butter.CF

A couple of tips from my little bit of experience on the subject.

I keep a safety pin on the magnet of my tying station to knock the paint out of the eyes before it dries. I also keep a straight pin there for the same reason. Sometimes I will have to use both of them depending on how hard the paint has gotten.

I also use a pair of manicure scissors. I will poke the pointed tip in the eye and then rotate the scissors to finish cleaning out the area.

One last thing, I keep a large cork from what I would guess is from a magnum of wine in my tying station. If I am only doing a few heads, I will stick the jig or fly to the cork until is ready to go into the toaster oven.

    Hope this helps,

    Bobo

Bobo, did you ever consider that rotating the scissors in the eye, that you are roughing the inside up. Once tied on the line, and in use, that the abrasion caused, could make the line break. Just a thought, and for others too.

S10 I had came to the same conclusion about abrasion on the hook eye! I decided to try the hemostat route and it works well for me. Keeps the hook eye clean.

When I first started painting heads, I too used a meddle to clean the eye hole out but it left a sharp edge thus I would lose more jigs from cuts than hang ups . I have since used the hemos and have had no problems.
