My first mold was a Palmer split shot without the plate for a dime at a carport sale. My brother cut a piece of banding steel to fit. 50/50 soldier was my first few pours. I could almost break a pair of pliers pinching them on the line and they would slide. Oh well, I was 10 or 12 at the time.
Good story, I have had some of those hard split shots before also..

Oh man I hated that mold!!!!!!!!! Even with pure lead it was a pain. A friend of my Uncle had a shot mold and I used to grab handfuls and use an old Barlow knife to make splits in them and those were my split shot. I gave him the mold.

My fave for sinkers was the Palmer 101 with 4 sizes of sinkers - I still have that mold but can't use the small ones anymore with the Vermont lead laws. Don't think tin would work very well in it!!!LOL

yep, the tree huggers have messed up what we can do for ourselves and a lot of vendors. I wish them lots of spliners, ticks, chiggers, poison oak.
