Crappie Wall Hanger II
Drought
Things in south central Pa is not looking good. Living in Cumberland co. for 45 years I have been aware of what mother nature provides and does not provide. Currently we are over 7 inches in the negative for rainfall. This has effected many of us never seen before.
Many farmers have seen reduced crops and my garden just did not grow. Even after watering a few times there was very little fruits for my labor. The brook trout stream on my property is completely dry. The Yellowbreeches creek is as low as I have ever seen it. Our co-operative nursery ( fish hatchery) is almost at a stand still. We used to receive 40,000 fingerlings in July. In recent times it was reduced to 36,000 do to newer data on what the raceways can handle. This year we only were able to take 13,000 as the reduced flow was not able to support all 3 raceways. Currently only 2 raceways have water and fish in them. Even the large state own trout hatchery in Hunstdale is having reduced water situations. I talked to our nursery manager and he said that I do not see anything positive to change in the near future. It appears there is a big tarp in the sky that diverts any rain to other areas when we do get some showers.

It hasn’t rained here in SE Ohio for 3 plus weeks. Creeks are dry, ponds are low as are the lakes. Tomatoes didn’t do well this year and the yard sounds like we are walking on tater chips. No rain forced for the next 7 days either. At least we aren’t mowing as much.

Haven’t noticed much of a drought here in NW PA. My three area lakes that I fish are all doing okay. We’re probably down in rainfall but not by very much.

The situation is definitely worse in the lakes that are water supplies for municipalities and industries. Marburg, Long Arm and Redman are very low. The worst I have seen in my 20 years living here. The only local lake that I know of that isn't really low is Pinchot, but that is at least partially due to it not being a water supply.
The only positive about this is that there is plenty of shoreline and the shoreline now has access to drop offs that you normally can only reach by watercraft.

interesting situation , I was of the opinion the NE us was getting good amounts of rainfall
in my part of the world it has been brutal , lots of great private waters just dried up to dust , the only good news is a few weeks ago we got some solid rain and some that were also about gone came back to maybe half full ....
