I would think it would depend on how good the trip was
Thinking of taking a charter trip for walleye around Port Clinton Ohio. We have never done this before.
Looking for suggestions on the size the tip for captain and crew.
I would think it would depend on how good the trip was
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
What your heart tells you. We do 50-100. I don’t think it should be success driven but experience based.

My heart tells me that you should charge what you need via the trip fee. I really don't support paying someone extra for doing their job.

If I contracted with them to take me fishing, catch a limit, teach me a technique, etc and return me back to the dock safely and clean my fish and put them in my cooler, then nothing above and beyond has occurred.
Now if they washed my truck and rotated my tires while we were out, then I consider that above and beyond.

I usually receive $50.00 to $100.00 for a 6 hr guided trip. However I am a stream river guide. Never base your tip on the fish you catch. However how prepared was the guide. Did he try to make your trip comfortable and interesting. Did he share advice and information with you? Did he have a mate? Mates usually get paid a very nominal compensation and make there money from your generous tip. Some people do not understand how much work and dedication goes into being a guide and the experience involved.
If you do not tip word gets around and it may be hard to find a good one next time you need one. The tip is basically expected as compensation. No I do not clean fish or wash trucks. That is not in my job! I go to a garage and get my tires rotated and so on. And yes I tip the mechanic. I can assure you he will remember you the next time around.
I go to Port Clinton every May, fish all week. I am going to subject a great fishing guide , Capt. Juls. Out of Port Clinton. I read her posts all the time, she will teach you how to caught walleye and you, wife will have a ball. I will get info and forward it to you. Zimmy

If I set up a charter and you get invited to participate, there is a mandatory twenty five bucks per man tip fee. My crew ain’t no cheapskates like some here. They clean and bag our fish according to how many guys we have on the charter. We know our captain personally and they know we tip good. They actually, when possible include their catch in our total fish count. That’s up to 12 more walleyes in my crews take. After reading these posts I see charter fishing isn’t for everybody. To each their own though.
