Default Newbie looking for some advice

    Hi guys:

Started a thread in another part of the forums and they suggested I post it here. Here’s the original: https://www.crappie.com/crappie/begi...r/#post4237767

I have a 12’ semi-V and just ordered a Helix 7 Mega-SI and have been watching videos about how to use it. I’m thinking about heading out next weekend to some local lakes to see if I can get some areas charted and possibly catch anything. Is it too early to expect any action from perch or crappie?

No it’s not too early. Panfish bite all year. Check deep first and work your way shallower. I start in 20ft and work to 4ft searching for them. They may even be 4ft deep in that 20ft water if the sun is bright. Late afternoon is better this time of year but they’ll bite all day long when you find them.

Minnows work well any time of year. Jigs as well. Add some Slab Sauce and your all set!

I would subgest using 1/6 or 1/32 oz hair or marabou jigs with Margot’s or crappie babblers or minnows could tip the jig with them. Cover the water column north side of lake , around docks or cover that will make heat to warm water. Thanks for the welcome. I live near Curwensville Lake so that will be my main target. I camp several times a year near George B. Stevenson Dam as well as Pymatuning so will be hitting those two as well.

You should try Shenango Lake also, the camping there is cheaper.
