That isn't off topic, it had the word crappie in it, lol. We need posts like this, even if there are no pictures. Sounds like you had a good day, and meal.
I fished Beaver dam swamp reservoir on Thursday. The air temperature at 9:00 am was 65 deg. and I did very well. The fish were in the upper end of the lake in the stream area do to warmer water. Most crappie were in the 11 to 12 inch size. I also caught yellow and white perch, gizzard shad and a pickerel. Some of the crappie had eggs so they were getting into pre spawn conditions.
This Lake is near Gloucester Va. I kept about 1/2 the catch and they were very tasty.

Unfortunately I do not know how to transfer pics. I though it was a little off topic as I posted it on the Pa site and the fishing is in Va. I catch more crappie in Va then Pa. This can be prime time if the weather is decent in many Va lakes. It is just nice to catch some slabs in January. I like ice fishing but open water with a long sleeve shirt sounds much better to me.

Some here might fish Ohio, and or New York, but they can still post it here. I will not fault members for that.
Nice report ! The way our ice fishing season is turning out , I'm just about ready to head to Va. With you, Addicted.
It's hard to imagine that they are ready to spawn, although it has been a warm winter.

Perhaps I over stated the pre spawn. However the eggs were well developed and not loose. I believe you understand how good the crappie fishing can be in Va.
