Shenango Picking Up

Gary, i got a call from a buddy thats up on the ice at golden run. Said he just got there and had 2 crappies already. Guys next to him had over 20 on the ice already, so they must be biting pretty good. I was at 846 access on friday and that ice scared the bejeebers out of me. Got home and put my ice stuff in storage. Its trout time. They're going to stock the river this week. I hope they dont open the gates any wider. Its fishable now so i'll be going after work this week. I hope they put some more of those 15" rainbows in this year. Lot of fun catching them.

hi chaunc; i just heard that 846 was not fit to be on. it looks bad to me from my vantage point on the bridge (but i'm no expert). let us know when the river is stocked, i'd like to give it a try and maybe get a chance to meet up with you. take care, gary

Haven't seen it. We took a drive up to franklin today and the snow was almost completely gone the whole way up and back so it probably isn't looking good. If I find out, I'll let you guys know.

hey chaunc; jeff had a good day on monday he had 10-14"-15" crappie said a few had eggs. he also caught 24 in the 10"-11" range (he said it was his best day on the ice in a few years for qualityfish). i haven't heard much about the ice conditions today but if i do i will post. man i'm hoping for an early ice out and open water fishing!!!!!!!! jeff is having his annual PA SURF and TURF get together this sunday the menu consists of venision tenderloin and fried crappie fillets, his fish all come off the ice and it's a real treat. take care, gary

I heard a few people on another web site that there is still ice on shenango. We are going out to check tomorrow, and if its o.k. we'll give it a shot. Probably golden run. I guess there is still ice on pymy and wilhelm also.

Yes. they stocked it on tuesday. put a lot of fish in there too. i watched a guy catch some nice rainbows wednesday. he had eggs he saved from the steelhead he got at erie. c&r over a dozen fish.

just a heads up. jeff went out on thursday afternoon after work at golden run. he said only 1/2 doz guys, he had no luck drilled doz holes no fish and none seen on camera. he reported 8" of good ice. gary u

Thanks Gary. I was wondering how much ice is left there. I'll tell my buddies. They might want to go up and get a few more days in. NOT ME !!!! I'll be trout fishing till ice-out. :D

Hit the celery farm this morning and got 9 small crappie. To small to keep. Ice was about 8". Hit golden run for about an hour (probably less) and got one small dink. Ice also 8". Small spoons with wax worms. Some on maggots. Gonna wait til this week to see how the weather is. Chaunc, been gettin any trout?
