Default Fall bite on Shenango lake

Forecast was for winds to gust up to twenty miles per hour but knowing the wind direction and which areas would be protected paid off. I have close to three hundred spots marked in my gps so I know where the brush is in those areas I chose to fish. I don't use live bait so figuring out what color body they will hit was the next task. Remembering what they hit last year at this time was a key to getting started. Tried them first then started changing colors they didn't produce the fish. I saw fish down on top and around the brush in fourteen feet. I kept changing baits until I finally started getting hit consistently. I caught fish on a couple other baits but not consistently. Must have used fifteen at that point but I have quite a few different colors to choose from in my arsenal. Just picked up some new plastics from Pico lure co., pour house customs, Bobby Garland crappie shooters, and Fle fly, to try this fall. Caught a few with each but the BG baby shads ruled the day. I won't post the specific color on an open forum but I changed all three poles to it. Great results. Pm me for info if you want. Fished three spots and got twenty really nice crappies plus a couple bass that I released. Had the whole lake to myself.

Nice mess of crappie. My last outing we had to keep changing colors until we found the magic color as well. It just happened that it too was a BG baby shad body. I’ve only been fishing for crappie a little over a year now. After I purchased my Lund boat. The more I use it the more I love it. We ended up with 12 crappie in 3 hours. Started getting dark on us.

Kept my tradition going of fishing turkey day. Another good day. Kept fifteen and threw back over twenty. Had the lake to myself.

Threw back twenty keepers too. They’re biting on the deeper stumps right now. Looking for them to move up shallower next week when it warms up again.

To all my CDC family, when or if you’re headed north for business or family vacation, and you’re in the northwest Pennsylvania area, you should take a day and fish this lake. It’s a phenomenal crappie lake and in my opinion, one of the best in PA.

Fished twice this week. They’re dropping the water level like crazy. The current is rediculous. The fish are biting very good tho. Lots of good size white crappies are on the deeper wood now.
