    Default Best tasting fish

My wife is old school catholic and eats fish every Friday. We buy fish from the store. Some taste good some not so good. Being a fishermen I catch fish ( sometimes) on a regular basics. Just as the fish we buy some is much more tastier then others. My wife always has a smile on her face when I say I got a meal of crappie. Do others agree? Also what other species do you like to eat from local waters? Our lakes will soon be open to fish so I am mentally ready and will get my equipment ready in the near future.

Most of the time the taste of a fish is in correlation to how it was handled from hook to fryer. If kept live until they meet the knife or immediately dredged in ice and cleaned quickly when home, rinsed of all blood very well and frozen in water or vac sealed. Some fish will need to be bled well before icing down. I would think in PA you should be focusing on crappie, walleye, yellow perch and gills for best table fare. But the market bought fish, ever watch the youtube videos of the longline boats and how they process fish? YUK!

I don't think freshwater fish can compare to saltwater fish. I'd trade every crappie and bluegill in the lake for ten pounds of grouper fillets (or cod or tuna or swordfish or flounder or mahi mahi.)

Crappie, gills, rock bass have a sweet taste, walleye, yellow perch, & channel cat.

I agree 100% if caught and treated well. But them longline boats, the giant operations not the lil guys selling straight to fishmarkets, are not much more than a floating catfood processor the way they handle the fish.

I like bluegills, perch, crappies, and walleye. Catfish and smallmouth bass a couple times a year.

you know its a funny thing but people's taste buds must be a partially genetic thing and maybe partially past experience. People in my large family will eat about anything without much of a word to say about it. I fry fish I might mix four or five different species and I never hear a word out of anybody. I just hope their may be a piece left for lunch the next day. The kids started dating and then getting married and we met all these people and had them for supper....and you start hearing...oh I don't eat that ...or I don't like that.

I guess we must be part buzzard LOL.Probably just one of them missing chromosomes or something.
