    Default Hello again

Hi all! Haven't been on here since last summer, just wanted to say hello to everyone again.

Also, its time for a fish finder upgrade. Wanted to get thoughts on Side Imaging, and if anyone has used them locally (Pymatuning specifically). I probably should have posted in a different thread, but wanted to ask the local guys about it. I know that guys who don't use them will still out fish me... but just kicking it around. I can use the same unit on 2 different boats which might make me be able to justify it a little more.

    Cant wait for ice off!

I have Lowrance and Hummingbird units but, I have a Lowrance 10" Gen 2 with structure scan and it absolutely shows every thing that is down there. I think in the long run it will help you become a better fisherman simply because you will find more things to fish which in turn will give you more opportunity to catch fish.
If you have the cash DO IT! I don't think you will be sorry.

I agree with Bob. Get the biggest screen you can afford tho. When it comes to SI, bigger is definetly better. I have a 997 HB on my console and an 1197 on the bow where i spend all my time. Thinking of moving the 1197 to the console this season and putting a 12 touch lowrance on the bow. Hopefully before i head to Ky next month.

Thanks guys, I actually ordered the Lowrance HDS 7 w/ Structurescan this evening (Had a bunch of Cabela's points to use). Im really excited about getting on the water with it, and trying out the structure map and that insight genesis. Hopefully it was a good choice.... only time will tell.

Goliath, welcome to CDC and the Pa board. These guys know their stuff. All I have is a cheap fish finder, bought at Wal-mart. It may not be what others use, but it works for me.

I have been using this "fishfinder" for a while now. It works great as long as you aren't particular about which species of fish you're after. One bad feature is that you can't turn the sound off, so you tend to draw a crowd when using it.

Thanks Chevy, Im amped up and ready for open water!

Got the unit today. Drug the battery inside and played with it all evening... very impressive.

Thanks Zeke, I'm pretty sure that the initial investment would be cheaper had I gone your route!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I am using an older Humminbird 565 and don't know much about the newer units. I have down some research on the down-image and side-image models and they seem to have a lot of nice features. I am not sure I could convince my wife to let me pay that much for a fish-finder. Most of those models cost more than I paid for my boat. In some cases....way more! Good luck with your Lowrance. Remember to leave some fish for the rest of us.
