Default Joseph sayer lake in thefall

Anyone out there willing to share info on the lake for fall fishing. Also interested in info on the tail race below the dam. I live between Harrisburg and York so it's a two plus drove for me. I've had great luck during the spring as far as numbers are concerned, few legal fish, but enjoyable just the same. I hope to fish the lake this fall but could use some general info. If someone is willing to share it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Cool Fall Fish

    Fishfooler

The spillway has mostly small fish 3" - 6" fish except when they drop the lake level fast and flush out some fish for flood control, just stay out of fast current. As for the main lake a very good fish finder and trolling speed is key, as they move alot and can get lock jaw unless you find the right bait that day. You may not know this but the minimum length for crappies is 9" and 6" for gills - most are in the 8" - 8 3/4" range. But you can find some in the 12" - 14" range out there.Hands Clapping

Since the water level when up I been catching lots of b@ss all just under 12" and some bigger cats.Thumbs Up

Thanks for the reply, I plan to fish a few days this week. Plan fish the tail race area and become more familiar with that area. Normally I trailer my boat and fish the lake.

    Unhappy High water

One note about this week, they held water back for flood control and most spillway area's is not fishable because of high flow - you may want to bring your boat this time.

Your right, the flow was very fast the first two days but fishable the third. We did well fishing the back water the two days the flow was fast. Is there a way to tell how the flow will be? When will the winter drawdown begin?

    Cool

Its a real crappie shoot if the fish are there or not, I think it depends on the flow rate over time, sometimes they there and others they are not. Good to here you found fish Hands Clapping

Thank you for replying. Are we the only people on this site that fish Sayers??? I did have a very good trip in the sense of numbers of fish caught. All came on tubes, trout magnets and small shad darts. I'm planing another trip 11/01-02/11 and may again leave the boat at home. Hopefully we'll talk again.

    Cool

If we are the only ones fishing there, that's more for us - Rofl. The fish that were 8 1/2 - 8 3/4 earlier this year are feeding heavy for winter and most are into the 9" range now so troll troll troll for the bigger fish in October and November. And when you come up pm me and maybe we can get together.

Went out yesterday and fished from the bank in the Hunter's Run area fishing with small jigs tipped with a piece of a nightcrawler. Did pretty well for about one hour before sunset but that's the only time when I had consistent catches. I'm really looking forward to some hard water in a few months!!!
