Both my son and I caught our PB crappies on May 1st On Sayers Dam. He caught the first fish and also his biggest at a little over 13" white crappie on a small rapala crank bait, about 30 min later and a couple smaller fish, I hooked onto my monster of 13 3/4" white crappie with a 2 1/2" twister tail.
My son went on to get 2 more legal ones (Sayers Reservoir is a panfish enhancement waterway 7" sunfish & 9" crappie), I caught 1 more and my dad got 2. As usual they were very color selective but we still caught about 25 -30 between us.
According to this they were about 7.5 - 8.5 years old: :D
Crappie Management and Fishing in Pennsylvania
We did find out the hard way that dad needed to replace 2 of 3 battery's in his boat, and had to cut our fishin a little short.
Went fishing at sayers for half a day. Caught about 12 crappies and only 4 were legal. Cold and windy day. Had fun untill I got cold. Will go back and try again.
Went last Sunday and caught 40 in about 3-1/2 hours after the cold front had moved through on Saturday. They would hit on one color jig for about 30 minutes and then switch to another color preference, so you had to keep changing, but the action never stopped. I only kept two nice size ones. I hope to go again tomorrow.
I've gone to Sayers the past two days. The boaters and water skiers are beating the lake into a froth. Nobody is having much success although the areas near the upper part of the lake are OK. Lots of dinks but very little of any size. Maybe Tuesday they'll be hitting like crazy once things quiet down a little bit!
Did anyone hear of a fish kill at Sayers?
I'll be heading there this weekend. I live very close to the lake and talk with buddies at work and nobody has mentioned anything unusual. I'll post what I find later.
They just spawned / spawning and some did not make it, there does seem more this year.
A fish kill would help that lake. Way tooooooooooo many dink crappies in there.
