The weather forecast was sunny and hot with light wind . And it was all that .
My buddy and I met up around 11 this morning and it was mid 80’s already .
I had my Mission cooling fishing hat and a cooling neck wrap for both of us . I think it helped . When we made a move to an area lower on the lake we found a spot that had a little more breeze that also helped .
Fishing was tough with nothing but little fish caught by both of us , 18 for me , 10 for my buddy .
My main mission for today trip was to get more familiar with fishing with braided line . I was able to compare casting the same lures I usually fish with 2# Floroclear with four different braids . Varivas Max 7# (pink) , Daiwa J Braid X8 Grand 6# (blue) , Daiwa J Braid X8 6# (dark green) , and KastKing Destron 6# (yellow) .
All of them cast my lures at least as far as I usually cast with the Floroclear. With the order listed above representing the farthest to the least distance.
All of the rods were St Croix UL’s in 5’ and 5’6” .
One the advantages I noticed about the braids was you feel every little nip on your lure and when you hook up , the fish feel bigger than they really are. = more fun !
I also noticed braids cast better wet . My second casts and casts afterwards were usually farther than my first casts .
Although the fish weren’t big , they were some colorful little guys caught .
