Sorry, after doing some checking I believe this is really a bluegill. No red on the ear flap. Any opinions?

I would say that is a shellcracker 100%. I caught many last year that had next to no red ear. Sometimes it was yellow and even white on some of the bigger fish. If I was never sure I would stick my finger down their throat and feel that big rough stone that they have for crushing shells.
