    Default KY Lake - Bluegill

Did not get on the water until 3pm. Water temp was showing 74. Started in 10 ft and found fish in the mouths of the smaller bays around milfoil (submerged). Caught around 30 with 10 good keepers. Never fished deeper than 12ft. Left at 6pm. Nice day to be on the water.

I'm on the boat right now but 3 weeks ago while I was crappie fish'n I cought some of the biggest gills I've ever cought. Had several push'n a pound.

I was fish'n jigs 10' deep in about 12 to 13' of water over brush piles in the middle of the bays. If I'd use some smaller jigs or some worms I think I'da killed'um. I had a good mess of crappie & atleast 10 big gills.

I know I missed several cause I kept get'n pecked on the jigs.

    Wiskers,

That is a typical pattern for me from Nov. through jan. I like minnows or pieces of crawlers. I like to find brush out in the middle of the bays in about 10 - 15 ft of water. Seems like any deeper and the bigger fish are just not there in numbers. Several of the 10 I kept to eat were 3/4 lb. Hard to believe the numbers of this size fish in KY lake the last couple of years. I have had good luck around the living milfoil/moss later on in the fall. Some of the stuff isn't 6 inches tall but the fish are there. Seems like the catfish like to school around the stuff as well.

Nice!! It's always better when you're catching. That's the nice thing about making your own jigs you'll always have different sizes.

Saturday I caught the biggest bluegill I ever caught on KY Lake, well over a pound. On a crappie jig 12' water.
