Drop shot for Bream. anyone using this tactic here?

I have recently made some of my own, some combinations of two jigs or a jig and a circle hook. I thought since this tactic works so well for bass why not downsize and go for panfish and crappie. I'l be trying them out today.

My father taught me to rig that way 20 years ago for southern panfish using catalpa worms, single wiggler or earthworm grub. In recent years I've modified the rig 8 foot noodle rod, using 1/4 ounce sinker on bottom, #12 mustad fly (long shank) hook. Changed the bait to wax or mealworms, small crickets, or red worms. It's effective fishing vertical from a flat boat near stumps.

Good thread, I saw Bill Dance smash the Bream on a show filmed on one of my favorite lakes this past winter doing this. He had a 1/8 th Oz. Jig with a heavier weight below, cast on structure and reel in slow. I've been wanting to give it a try.

Same here, my dad taught me that about 50 years ago too. Still works just fine.

[SIZE="4"][/SIZE I was browsing last nite and ran into this blog i woke my wife up to come see. well the first thing she said was [this is my way] she and i are in our mid 80s been fishing since 1945 when i came home pontoon boats mostly the last 30 years we fished 7 hours yesterday with our son an gr son she wanted to know ??about the name[drop shot]??..

I've been useing that for cats since I was a kid. Never thought to try it on panfish.

Change the size hook to a #8 and add a red wiggler or wax worms for bream

People have used the Ky lake rig for years also for Bream and cats. Change to #6 or #8 hooks.

Good Lord, I have been using the Kentucky rig for over 60 years and at that time I was in Kansas. First rig that my dad taught me to use. It just goes to show you what comes around goes around.

I have used versions of it and the drop shot system for 'Gills and cats since I was about eight. I'm 63 now. That's almost 60 years of knowing the technique my dad taught to me too. Nothing new under the sun, they just rename it to market it to a new generation. Still works well though.

I was just flipping through the fishing shows I have recorded over the last month and there is one of Bill Dance using this technique for catching bluegills when it is cold. I am sure it would work at other times of the year. He used an ultra light rod and reel with 4lb test line(I love catching panfish like that) and he tied on a black body with a blue tail YUM Vibra tube. He used a 1/32 jig head and a 1/8th oz split shot on the bottom of the line about 6-12 inches below the tube. I have been catching Panfish with my dad since I was 6 years old and I can say I have never tried that in the 32 years thatI have been fishing with my dad. I am sure though the next time I go out fishingI am going to have to ry this for my self.
