Thread: Local park lakes

I've found fish tend to become overpopulated in park lakes and get stunted.. most bluegill etc in the area where I live are stunted due to lack of natural predators. The only sunfish native to this area is almost extinct and has been taken over by transplants from the south.

I definitely agree with the overpopulating issue. There is a place up here where I live in Louisville, ky where they did a fish kill on a public pond like 15 years ago because it was all outta whack to a severe degree. It's nearly to the same point again, people showed up and they caught all of the baby cats outta there and the few small bass and now the gill just seem a million to one on anything in there and none of them are even as long as your hand, it's sad really. Great catch for an overcrowded water though!

I have seen ponds like that.

Cherokee park in particular.
