or some other tragic event has happened , but to be sure the big bulls and hens are not in the mix currently ,,,,,darnit I say
struggling to EVEN ketch them currently at one spot , but 100 or so crappie in the mix helped cure the illness pretty well .....

If you’re fishing public waters, somebody has probably cleaned them out .
They do that around here .
With modern electronics it’s gotten worse .
    I hate bedding season .

I prefer to fish for the survivors.

Same here. The "plublic" beds, as in ones easily seen in community hole areas, will get wiped out the first warm weekend they move up. People will literally park a boat on one and 3-4 adults will take every single fish off the beds and then go look for another spot.

I enjoy bed fishing bluegills, but i dont keep them off beds. Before and after, fair game. Once they make that bowl they are off limits for me.

You’re correct! The shallow beds are easily found and get wiped out .
Now days folks using modern electronics can locate the deeper beds and they clean them out too .
It’s taken a local reservoir of over 350 acres several years to bounce back once the county started requiring an out of county annual permit.
    It’s helped .
Our daily limit of fifty per person doesn’t help matters .

We have a 25 per day limit but no possession. Youll see the same boats hitting all the beds every day of the spawn, taking home limits every day for the summer fish fry where they invite everyone they know and get to feel super cool. Same thing happens during the crappie spawn. Rob the lake of the future fish to feel cool at a cookout and feed a bunch of people who would have happily eaten a hotdog.

A fella told me the other day that he cleaned over 1000 fish with his electric bubba last year. I said wow, what do you do with 1000 fish? He said he fishes every day and gives the fish away to all his family/friends and then has big fish frys.

I’m with y’all. The place I called my office was very good and I fished it for about four years. One day I saw a couple of guys shadowing me and staying back. Within two weeks all my places were vacant and even this year there isn’t any left to speak of. I’ve found other fish and throw everything back. All I can control is what I do and try to speak my peace to those with different ethics than we share. Snowbirds come here in the winter and colllect all they can and freeze them by the bucket full. Come spring they empty the freezer and load it in the back of the pickup and reload it and carry them home the next day for the big fish fry with everyone they know. I’m disappointed in my fellow man at times.
