I have a couple Zebco 33s that I have for my great grandson when he comes of age. My wife likes her 33 as well. This post brought back memories when I was a little boy. I wish I had the ramshackle rods, reels and cane pole I grew up with.
I still use spin cast. Gonna be using 2 new zebco high dollar reels today. ($90) Omega's. And yes you must put tension on them when spooling and you still have the occasional line hang up like mentioned. I just find them easy to use with my bad wrist's.

Guys Shelton's Clothing and Outdoors had a good deal on some of the better Zebco spincast reels Saturday. They are on Facebook and do shipping deals. Thought someone might be interested. Look them up if you fish, they have the largest supply of rods I have ever seen and some of the best prices.

Zebco 202 is what I started out with when I was a child. They were tough. That was 65 years ago. I am sure there have been improvements made in the current models. They have their place and some fishermen love them.
I have a one Daiwa spincast setup and I only use it when skipping baits under docks. I can cast it underhanded with way more precision than shooting a bait with a spinning reel.
Spin cast also are prone to have issues just like any reel if you "over " fill .

I use the Daiwa Gold cast reels if I’m casting . Mine work flawlessly unless I get a lure that gives me a lot of line twist or if I wait too long to change it. I just wish they could make one with a higher gear ratio.
This thread reminds me I need to buy a few more before they have a brain fart and decide to discontinue the gold cast reels.
