I've wanted to go out there for years. The redear are world class. I'm sure if you went in April, it would be well worth the drive.
BTW, I used to catch good redear at Elk Creek and Hardy Lake!
Has anyone fished Lake Havusa? I've seen huge redears but does it have huge bluegill? I'm in Southern Indiana. Would it be worth the drive? Also if you have fished it do you have any pics?

Jungle Jim’s Jigs has fished it. Check out Ty Pig Patrols channel on YouTube. I tried to book a guide trip out there years ago but could not locate a guide. Folks told me you don’t need a guide. But my take was that if I’m driving from TN to AZ I’m going to spend a week. And I did not relish doing that and launching on a lake I hard no clue about fishing it. I know on some of Ty’s trips he would only catch 1 or 2 fish and would comment how it took him hours for one fish. Then he has gone out and caught all he wanted. And yes there are big bluegill there as well as the shell cracker. But keep in mind he has folks out there to show him the spots.

Sure it will. Back when I used SOS 2# test I caught all the 21 inch Smallies one could want. Back in 2009-2010 they lowered Center Hill Lake for a very long repair on the dam. My son and I fished it from the bank in the spring 5 days a week up to 2012. We went there hunting bluegill, and we found plenty of them. But mixed in were some very hefty Smallies. A typical day for us was 150 bluegill and 50 Smallies. SOS line is very forgiving because of the stretch. It has a crazy amount of stretch. The stretch is what made me quit using SOS.

I fished Havasu in 2015 with Sonny. In two days of fishing we caught bluegill and hybrid bluegill up to 1.5 lbs but the Redear was king. Caught two over 2#., one over 3# and a wall hanger that weighed 4lbs 9 oz. Bigger fish were caught using live crayfish. Jigs tipped with crickets and crawlers caught more. Caught lot's of smallies in the 2#-3# class as well. I used 2# Izorline for this trip.

It would be the holy grail for me. Also a three day drive. A guide would be smart but maybe a bucket list trip after I retire. Absolute monster fish you’re holding Jim, and I miss Sonny and his posts.

Wow, we’ll be out that way this summer. Might give it a shot.
