    Default First meet up

First meet up of the year ,
First fish of the year !
I met up with my fishing buddy at our first boat ramp of the day around 11:00 am .
Weather was sunny and already mid fifties with a wind that seemed to come and go .
The water was the lowest I’ve seen in years and stained .
I started out fishing a slip float rig but after several casts realized I need heavier than 2# line for slip floating .
My line snapped during a cast just at the top of my swivel and I lost everything.
I switched over to a Sowbug Trout magnet and never looked back .
It was at our second boat ramp , that I caught my first fish of the year , a small LM . This was after missing one that hit right at the bank .
That’s was all for that ramp .
Our third and final stop was at a busy ramp for Friday in early February.
We constantly had to move out of the way for folks unloading and loading boats .
We had a couple guys apologize for messing up our fishing , but in actuality it seemed we would get a strike after the boat motors stirred up the water on the ramp .
    Seem to attract fish .
I caught a nice spotted bass and a fat green sunfish. My buddy caught three bass on his roostertail from 8-12” .
I lost another bass that came unhooked and had another green sunfish get off .
We didn’t tear them up , but it’s better than a skunk .
And it was the nicest day we’ve had in quite awhile. Ended up in the mid sixties.
We headed home around three .
Combo used mostly today was a 6’3” Abu Garcia MB 3 with a Shimano Soare XR 500spg and 2# P-Line .

Nice bass, haven't caught one yet this year. Seen a few cruising shallows but not eating my jigs.

That MB gets a lot of play, must be a good setup. That’s a good bass that always makes the trips a bit better. I haven’t fished the fresh water for a while except for a couple of trolling trips. If the rain ever lays down and lets the river slow down I might be able to go play. Glad y’all had a good time. Wind and temps lately haven’t been friendly here.

    It’s a fun rod .
I’m in the process of giving braid another try and will be switching over to my St Croix rods with the larger guides to make sure my leader knot makes it through cleanly .
