The one you caught sure was a good one
Fish can’t read !
If they could they would have been on fire this morning.
Even the green fish wouldn’t cooperate .
I got to the Town pond just before ten this morning.
Temps were in the lower sixties, the third day of warming temps .
It was overcast , threatening rain , with a front due mid day .
The local news station had a major feed at this time on their Game and fish report .
I thought I would have to hide behind a tree to tie on my lure .
WRONG !
I caught one fish in just over two hours of casting my new 6’6” St Croix Avid UL rod .
I paired it up with my Daiwa 21 Presso 1000 lt s-p and 2# line .
The fish was a nice one , a 9 7/8” shellcracker.
I caught it at 10:08 about fifteen minutes after arriving.
That was the last I would feel on my rod except some occasional slime on my dark olive tungsten bead jig .
The wind was almost nonexistent until just before I left around noon.
It sprinkled off and on all morning, but not enough to send me home .
You just never know .
That’s why it’s called fishing .

I don’t worry about or believe too much in those reports. Been several times out on the supposedly best fishing day and it was all I could do to not be skunked.
well you never know the one you did land is a dandy
sound kind of like the way my Dad described bass fishing as "casting"
As for the weather, they got it correct here for today, it has been straight down all day , which is good, got a pond that's still way down and a brush-pile I need gone
We still haven’t gotten any significant rain . Just a drizzle.
Going to be a warm night , low 60’s .
Cloudy again tomorrow with a high of 66 . May try a local water reservoir or the creek.
But the pond is only five minutes away .

Closest water for fishing I have is 8 miles away. Haven't been to it in a while since the Magnet fishers destroyed what habitat was put in there. Next closest is a good 15-20 miles away, and then there's Stockton, and Pomme de Terre at an hour drive from the house. Can't get too far away as Ms Joyce still has an episode every now and again. Also her knee surgery coming up on the 18th. Maye by spring I can get back to wetting a line a couple of times till my knee surgery. One can follow you all in the mean time. Congrats on a very nice Gill and keeping the skunk off.
Proud to have served with and supported the Units I was in: 1st IDF, 9th INF, 558th USAAG (Greece), 7th Transportation Brigade, 6th MEDSOM (Korea), III Corp, 8th IDF, 3rd Armor Div.

Nice gill for an only. I’m hoping you can get a few good days to hold you over through your down time.

Your water temp. is higher than ours. We've had a thin layer of ice on top for a few days until warm 50 degree air melted it. Then we had 1" of rain in one day ,that raised the water level. I'm sure if I ventured out, my catch would be close to 6 fish or less considering the rapid environmentl changes.
I'm not a fan of cold water fishing especially whe the wind chill is below freezing. The nice thing about living in Tx. was the year round fishing and no skunks - ever.

Believe me when I say that you did good. This was the only fish NiNo and I could catch out of two boats. Good to be out but it was tough.
