Here in Missouri they have a winter trout stocking program where once the waters cool enough they stock trout in some of the lakes with a few bigger brood fish thrown in to make things interesting. Since the program started in 1991 I have caught thousands of nice trout at these lakes but never had caught a big trout at one of these lakes, in fact never had even hooked one. Finally hooked one and and landed a 22" female. Only got a quick shot of her in the net. Every time I tried to take her out of the net she would go crazy thrashing so passed on more pics and released her. Fished one area and trout and redear and redear hybrids were biting. Ended with 11 trout and 8 assorted sunfish in two hours. Name: IMG_4635.jpg

    Nice !
We have some designated delayed harvest steams that are stocked pretty heavy just before opening.
Delayed harvest from late fall to late spring .
I’ve been meaning to give them a try one day , since I’m a catch and release person anyway .
I’m betting my micro jigs would work pretty good on them .
I tried them a few years ago on some stockers and did pretty good , and that was before I discovered tungsten beads .m

gillchaser, you have all you need to catch trout. Same jigs you use for panfish will get the job done. Stocker trout don't jump very often, maybe 1-10 but they do make the drag scream and fight long and hard. The redear at this lake are starting to get bigger, some pushing 10". Going there again today.
