Got the boat out on maiden voyage yesterday. While I made a cast or two I really focused on learning about jet drive and using the new Quest Ulterra trolling motor. There is a learning curve when using jet vs prop. Just not as much bite when you want to turn at slower speed. And of course not as much speed as a prop of same horse power. I can get 22 MPH out of it as it is. My guy that sold it to me told me if I want to he can set it up to get 30 MPH out of it at no charge to me. This is the same boat that the dealer owner has and he set it up for max speed. I told him I may take him up on that but right now I’m satisfied with the 22 for the small lakes and the trout rivers I’ll be fishing. The Alps spider seats are extremely comfortable. This boat is very stable. Really it’s like a barge. All the storage I’ll ever need. Could have set it up for more storage but I love an open layout boat. Really like the rod trays. I would have preferred a 10 amp NoCo but just no way to get the larger one in the space where I wanted it. So I went with the 5x3. Now to the trolling motor. It is a pure joy to use compared to the older models. The mechanics are so much better. The motor is quite as a church mouse. The spot lock feature is so much better. It is what I think we all want spot lock to be like. Jog feature works like a champ. Still working on learning about the drift mode. I used the trolling motor to scan the lake for fish using my Helix 10. Found a lot of old beds from this last spring. Also found some beds I did not expect to find but am very excited for spring to get here. These beds were in 14-16 feet of water. Was kind of shocked but fished enough to know with beds that deep that means very large bluegill or shell cracker. The wife was with me and she loves to view eagles. We saw one and he let us get up close and personal. Spent quite a bit of time checking him out. He even entertained us by snatching a fish out of the lake pretty close to us. The boat was set up perfect. Goes off and on the trailer with ease. Love the steps on the trailer. Unhook the bow, walk up steps into the boat and off you go. Same when loading. Walk down steps, hook to bow and pull out. No need to get feet wet with the way it is setup. Now, some have asked me would I like going from a stick steer where everything is up front to this setup. I must admit a stick steer is very convenient. What I miss is the sonar not being up front. Now I could change that, or put another unit up front. Well another unit is out of the question. So I’ll see how this works out and if I don’t like it I’ll move it. I rely on the si unit a lot when targeting panfish. Overall the boat has exceeded my expectations. It is about as senior friendly as one could beHere It Is!. I will be back over at Bald Knob Lake to fish on the next decent weather day. Which may be a few weeks. Storms and cold are headed our way and I will just admit I have become a fair weather fisherman. Of course I will get this on the Little Red to do some trout fishing also. Have also learned the Little Red down where I live has a lot of bluegill in it. There is a ramp for it only 3 minutes from my house. So hopefully my next post will be about fishing.

Awesome. Good to hear it’s everything you wanted. I think you did good to get new trolling motor. I’m sure there will be many more fish catching adventures with new boat. It looks good. Nice pics. Thanks for sharing
